Polk County’s boys soccer program celebrated a historic season Thursday at its postseason banquet at Sunnydale.
The Wolverines finished 18-1-3, completing an undefeated regular season and capturing both the Western Highlands Conference and 3A West Regional championships before falling to Wallace-Rose Hill in the state final. Polk County scored 96 goals while allowing just 18, with 15 different players finding the back of the net.
Head coach George Alley earned Western Highlands Conference Coach of the Year, 3A Coach of the Year and All-Region honors.

Five Wolverines earned All-Western Highlands Conference recognition: Cooper Meyer, Thomas Varnadore, Mason Hudson, Tanner Osborn and Charlie Wagoner. Senior defender Will Garrison was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Meyer, Garrison, Hudson and Varnadore also earned All-Region honors from FarWest. Garrison and Meyer were named All-State.
Charlie Wagoner earned Varsity Goalkeeper of the Year honors, while Thomas Varnadore was named Varsity Midfielder of the Year. Tallis Metcalf won the Most Improved award and Tanner Osborn received the Wolverine Award.
For the junior varsity team, Tomas Santibanez earned Offensive Player of the Year, Matt Jarrett won Defensive Player of the Year, Quevin Rodriguez was named Most Improved and Jasper Nespeca received the Wolverine Award.
The banquet was held at Sunnydale in Tryon, with food provided by El Campesino, where players ate after every home game. Parents decorated and provided a picture slideshow from the season.
