Early goals lift Hendersonville past Polk JV

1 min read

One day after filling the net against Avery, Polk County’s JV boys soccer team found goals much harder to come by Wednesday.

Hendersonville scored twice in the first half and held off Polk’s second-half push for a 2-1 Western Highlands Conference victory at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The loss came on the heels of Polk’s 7-1 victory over Avery, a quick turnaround that left the Wolverines playing on consecutive days.

Hendersonville wasted little time taking the lead Wednesday, scoring in the second minute. The Bearcats doubled the advantage in the 31st minute, sending Polk into halftime trailing 2-0.

The Wolverines cut the margin in half 10 minutes into the second half.

Joshua Jarrett took a free kick just outside the left corner of the penalty area and drove a cross through the goalmouth toward the back post. Axel Ramirez met the service there and headed the ball just inside the post to make it 2-1.

Polk could get no closer, and Hendersonville held on for the conference victory.

The Wolverines moved to 6-4-2 overall and 3-1 in Western Highlands Conference play. Polk travels to Owen on Monday for another conference matchup.
