Polk County will open the state 2A boys basketball playoffs at West Wilkes, according to official pairings released Saturday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
The Wolverines are seeded 24th in the 2A West bracket and will travel Tuesday to face the No. 9 Blackhawks (12-11). West Wilkes finished in a three-way tie for first in the 1A/2A Mountain Valley Conference and won a drawing to be the league’s top seed. Polk County (7-17) finished as the second 2A team in the Western Highlands Conference to earn an automatic playoff berth.
The Polk County-West Wilkes winner would face the winner of No. 8 Parkwood-No. 25 Lincolnton.

Among Western Highlands Conference teams, Hendersonville earned the 28th seed and will travel to North Surry. Mountain Heritage, the top 2A seed in the WHC, earned the 10th seed and will host East Rutherford.
