Wheeler earns mention on NCBCA all-district team

Polk County junior guard Jamal Wheeler has been named a third-team all-district selection by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

Wheeler was one of three Western Highlands Conference players chosen, with Avery’s James Stewart and Jacob Waldrop joining Wheeler on the third team. Smoky Mountain’s Cal Raleigh and Spencer Norris, Erwin’s Malik Moore, North Buncombe’s Daniel Burchette and Hayesville’s Zach Cottrell comprised the first team.

Wheeler averaged 17.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game in leading Polk County to a state 2A playoff berth. He set a school record in January, scoring 40 points in an overtime win at Hendersonville.
