A year ago, Polk County had a chance to earn a rare win at Madison but lost a late lead and fell in overtime, foul line struggles a key culprit in the defeat.
The Wolverines made up for that loss Tuesday night, holding on to defeat Madison 52-48 in Western Highlands Conference boys basketball action in Marshall.
The win, Polk County’s third straight in a key nine-day stretch, improved the Wolverines to 4-12 overall, 4-3 in WHC play. Madison dropped to 5-12, 2-5.

The hero of Friday’s overtime win at Hendersonville, Jamal Wheeler also delivered a key play Tuesday. With Polk leading 50-48, Wheeler stole possession of the ball with two seconds left, then hit two free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Wheeler finished with 15 points, with Jason Chupp scoring 14 and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Polk County returns home Wednesday to host West Henderson in a non-conference matchup.
