Mitchell hit back-to-back 3-pointers down the stretch to hold off a Polk County rally and earn a 69-61 win Tuesday in Western Highlands Conference boys basketball action in Bakersville.
The Mountaineers (7-12, 4-3) stopped the Wolverines’ four-game winning streak and dropped Polk County to 5-14 overall, 5-4 in WHC play. Polk County travels to East Henderson on Wednesday.
Mitchell built a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but Polk County rallied and cut the deficit to two midway through the period. But the consecutive 3-pointers by Mitchell kept Polk County at bay and helped the Mountaineers end a two-game losing skid.

Jamal Wheeler scored 30 points to lead Polk County, which also got 13 points from Jason Chupp.
Blake Davis had 19 points to lead a trio of Mitchell players in double figures.
