Karli Wood scored 13 points to lead the Wolverines, who earned their first conference win.

“They played really well defensively and were able to score points off of turnovers. Offensively, we saw the floor incredibly well.  It was a great way to earn our first conference win.”

Shields also pointed to the solid guard play of Bella Marino, Haley Fowler and Annie Eargle as key to the win.

In boys play, Owen built a 14-point halftime lead and went on to take a 56-39 win.

Brett Phipps scored 21 points for the Wolverines, but a 30-16 halftime deficit proved too much to overcome. Owen ensured that with an 18-7 run in the third period.

The Polk County JV girls were victorious on Wednesday. Details to come.

Both teams are in action again on Friday, traveling to Hendersonville for a pair of games beginning at 4 p.m.
