Wolverines qualify three for 2A West Regional golf tourney
Polk County qualified three golfers for next week’s 2A West Regional tournament thanks to their performance in Tuesday’s final round of the Western Highlands Conference tourney at Mountain Air Country Club.
Dillion Overholt, Gabe O’Brien and Josh Chupp will represent the Wolverines at Monday’s regional at Maggie Valley Country Club. The three, along with Mountain Heritage’s Issac Benfield, were the top four individual qualifiers at the two-day tourney.
“I’m really proud of them,” said Polk County head coach Pat McCool.
Hendersonville won the conference title by 14 shots over Avery, with Owen placing third. The Bearcats and Warhorses earned the conference’s two automatic berths to the 2A West tourney and will compete there as teams as well as individuals.
Avery’s Jacob Waldroop fired a 74 Tuesday to edge Hendersonville’s Zach Stevens by a stroke for the conference title.
