Wolverine golfers earn regional berth, place two on all-conference team

Polk County’s boys golf team earned a berth in the 2A West Regional, placing third in the Western Highlands Conference tournament held Tuesday at Mountain Glen Golf Club in Newland.

The Wolverines nipped Hendersonville by a single shot to earn the WHC’s final berth, set for May 2 at Meadowbrook Golf Club.

Avery won the tourney with a team score of 330, followed by Owen at 332 and Polk County at 355. The top two 2A squads earned berths in the 11-team regional tourney.

Polk County also placed two golfers on the all-conference team, with Dillon Overholt firing an 83 to place fifth overall and Gabe O’Brien posting an 84 to finish sixth.

Owen’s Garrett Miller carded a 72 to earn medalist honors.

Josh Chupp, Hunter Lynch and Jaylon Bontrager each posted a score of 94 for the Wolverines, with Nick Wilson posting a 112.
