Wolverine golfers battling injuries, weather in early season
Polk County’s boys golf team is hoping for better weather and better health in the days ahead.
With only four players comprising this year’s roster, the minimum needed for an official team, depth isn’t a luxury for the Wolverines. So a recent injury to one of the group has meant that Polk County hasn’t been able to field an official squad for some of its matches to date. Inclement weather has also hampered Polk County in terms of practice time and matches.
But Trey Dusenbury, who along with Jim Hemphill coaches the squad, is optimistic that the team will be ready to compete Tuesday in a Western Highlands Conference match at Hendersonville Country Club. That’s part of a schedule that includes a new event, the Brights Creek Wolverine Invitational, slated for April 17-18 at Brights Creek.
This year’s roster includes Tanner Garrett, Alex Leake, Daniel Weathers and Gabe O’Brien.
