
Polk golfers continue improvement, take fourth in WHC match
Polk County’s boys golf team continued its steady improvement Thursday, finishing fourth in a six-team tournament at Meadowbrook Golf Club.
Competing against other Western Highlands Conference schools, Polk finished with a team score of 418, 30 strokes ahead of Madison and Mountain Heritage.
1A power Avery won the tourney with a score of 333, finishing 21 shots ahead of Hendersonville and Owen.
Dillion Overholt fired a 99 to lead the Wolverines, with Gabe O’Brien posting a 100, Josh Chupp a 103 and Isaias Akers a 112. Also competing were Blake Rackley (113) and Mitchel Yoder (122).
Avery’s Jacob Waldroop carded a 78 to earn medalist honors.
“I thought we played well today, getting better and better every day,” said Polk County head coach Pat McCool. “The kids are working hard. It’s a joy to be around them.
“We had a few bad holes today, but hopefully over time we’re going to get better. The season is going really well.”
Polk County hits the links again on Tuesday, competing at Black Mountain Golf Club.
