New day, same result: Polk golfers top Landrum by six shots

For the second straight day, Polk County’s boys golf team posted a six-shot win over Landrum, Thursday’s victory coming at Tryon Country Club in a home match for the Wolverines.

Polk County posted a team score of 187, besting Landrum’s 193. The Wolverines also edged the Cardinals by six strokes on Wednesday at Links of Tryon.

Dillon Overholt and Josh Chupp led Polk County, each firing a 44, with Gabe O’Brien shooting a 49 and Hunter Lynch, Jaylon Bontrager and Nick Wilson each shooting 50s.

Also competing for the Wolverines were Trey Thompson and Tyrese Miller, each with 57s, and Troy Lieberman with a 58.

Stu Rothell carded a 44 to lead Landrum.

The Wolverines step into Western Highlands Conference play for the first time on Tuesday, hosting WHC squads at Tryon Country Club in a match slated to begin at 1 p.m.
