Loss to ACA doesn’t dim satisfaction for Polk boys golf team
After struggling to field a full team much of last season, Polk County opened its 2016 boys golf schedule on Tuesday with a full roster and high hopes.
The Wolverines did drop their dual match with Asheville Christian Academy at Tryon Country Club. But first-year head coach Pat McCool still came away pleased despite the 165-214 final score.
“For our first match, I thought we did pretty good,” said McCool, who noted the rain that fell after the first three holes caused issues for his squad. “I’m pretty satisfied for what we did today to be our first match.
“Dillion Overholt really played well. For a guy who is starting out at number four he did a good job.”
Overholt led Polk County with a 49, followed by Gabe O’Brien with a 52, Josh Chupp with a 53 and Alex Leake with a 60. Also playing Tuesday were Austin Jackson (62), Blake Rackley (62) and Nick Wilson (63).
ACA’s Will Tamalin fired a 38 to take medalist honors.
The Wolverines are slated to be back at Tryon Country Club on Thursday, hosting Spartanburg Christian.
