Ballard takes second as Polk places fourth in WHC golf match

Will Ballard fired a 79 Tuesday to earn runner-up honors and lead Polk County to a fourth-place finish in a Western Highlands Conference golf match at Linville Falls.

Ballard finished seven shots behind Avery’s Daniel Childress, who fired a 72 to take medalist honors.

Polk County finished with a team score of 380. Avery won the match with a score of 329, followed by Hendersonville and Mitchell at 348.

The Wolverines are now 13-8 for the season.
