Polk County snapped a 3-3 tie with a three-run fifth inning and went on to take a 6-4 win over Asheville Christian Academy on Wednesday in non-conference baseball action in Asheville.
Morgan Groves’ safety squeeze in the fifth inning brought home the tiebreaking run and helped make Daniel Painter the winning pitcher. Painter came on in relief in the third inning and pitched an inning and two-thirds, striking out one and allowing no runners. Tyler Campbell pitched the final inning and two-thirds to get the save.
Bryce Martin had two hits, including a double and RBI, Campbell had two hits and Painter added a single to lead the Polk offense.

Head coach Ty Stott also cited the play of Konner Scruggs behind the plate and Holden Owens at third base.
