Wolverine baseball JVs continue torrid hitting in topping Owen

One of the hottest teams currently wearing Polk County blue and white continued its good fortune on Tuesday.

Polk County’s junior varsity won for the fourth time in five games, defeating Owen 15-5 in a five-inning game at Polk.

The Wolverines have scored 71 runs in those five games, with three of the four wins ending by run rule.

Owen grabbed a 5-2 lead after three innings, but the Wolverines (6-4) scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 edge, then exploded for nine runs in the fifth to end the game.

Chris Phipps finished 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead Polk’s offense, with Clark Phipps adding a 2-for-2 performance that included a double, two RBI and three runs. Evan Rimer was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kyler Scruggs was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two doubles.

Scruggs scattered six hits and Clark Phipps came on in relief to check Owen and help the Wolverines earn the win.
