Mitchell scored five runs in the top of the first Thursday and went on to post a 13-5 win over Polk County in the Wolverines’ regular-season finale at Polk.
Polk County ends its regular season with a 6-17 record. The state 2A playoff bracket will be announced Monday.
The Wolverines cut the deficit to 5-3 after three innings, but Mitchell (11-7, 9-3) added two runs in the fourth and four more in the seven to seal the win.

Noah Howell finished 2-for-3 to lead Polk County, which also got hits from Daniel Painter, Sedrick Pickett and Holden Owens.
