Seventh-inning surge lifts Polk to key WHC road win

Polk County scored four runs in the top of the seventh Tuesday to break a 6-6 tie and seal a 10-7 win over Mountain Heritage in Burnsville.

In a see-saw game in which Polk trailed 3-0 after the first inning and 4-3 after three, the Wolverines pulled away late to improve to 4-2 overall, 2-0 in WHC play. With Madison defeating Hendersonville on Tuesday, Polk now shares the conference lead with Owen.

Konner Scruggs pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing seven hits and striking out seven in his fourth start and fifth appearance of the season. Scruggs, now 3-0, also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Dequan Gary added a 2-for-3 effort for the Wolverines, who host Asheville Christian Academy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Polk County also won the junior varsity game, earning an 8-3 win.
