Scruggs shines on mound, at plate to help lead Wolverines to win

Konner Scruggs scattered five hits and had two hits at the plate Tuesday to lead Polk County to a key 4-2 Western Highlands Conference win at Owen.

Bryce Martin added two hits as the Wolverines improved to 6-6 overall, 4-2 in WHC play. Polk County moved a half-game ahead of Owen (3-6, 3-2) and Mitchell for second place in the WHC standings. The Wolverines host conference leader Hendersonville on Thursday.

Owen grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Polk answered with two runs in the third and never trailed. Leading 3-2, the Wolverines added a key insurance run in the seventh to seal the win.

Scruggs struck out four and walked two in pitching his third consecutive complete game.
