Mazzilli, Scruggs lead Polk County past East Henderson

Mark Mazzilli homered and drove in four runs Monday to back another solid pitching effort from Konner Scruggs as Polk County topped East Henderson, 6-2, in non-conference baseball action in Flat Rock.

Mazzilli had three hits, none more important than his three-run homer in the third inning that gave the Wolverines (2-1) a 5-0 lead.

Starting his third straight game, Scruggs (2-0) pitched four innings to pick up the win, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run. Daniel Painter pitched two innings and Morgan Groves the final inning.

“Daniel Painter played well at shortstop and Dequan Gary made some good plays in right field,” said Polk County head coach Ty Stott.

Weather permitting, the Wolverines are slated to host Chase on Wednesday, with junior varsity play beginning at 4 p.m.
