Polk County's Chase McMurray is the top seed in the heavyweight class for Friday's Western Highlands Conference tournament.

Western Highlands wrestling: Wolverines ready for conference meet

1 min read

Five Polk County wrestlers earned top three seeds for Friday’s Western Highlands Conference tournament at Owen, and head coach Phillip Miller expects each to fare well as the quest for a state individual title begins.

Nine Wolverines will compete in Friday’s tourney, at which a conference team tourney champion will also be crowned. Missing starter Jerry Cox due to illness and not fielding entrants in several weight classes, Miller is realistic about his team chances, but very optimistic about individual performances.

“I think the ones we are putting into the tournament will do well,” Miller said. “Overall, we won’t do well because we won’t have someone in every weight class. But I expect at least seven to place.”
