Polk County outlasted East Henderson in a marathon second set and went on to top the Eagles 3-0 Thursday in a non-conference volleyball match in Flat Rock.
The Wolverines picked up their first win of the season with a 25-16, 36-34, 25-15 triumph. East Henderson fell to 0-2.
As the epic second set stretched past 25 points, both teams had numerous set points, only to see the other side deliver a kill or defensive play to keep the set alive. Polk County (1-1) finally took a 35-34 lead on a Sophia Overholt kill, then wrapped the set on a Morgan Yoder middle hit.
Perhaps inspired by the set win, the Wolverines raced to a 7-0 lead in the third set. East Henderson responded with four straight points, but would get no closer the rest of the set as Polk County steadily pulled away.
Overholt had 11 kills and eight digs for Polk, with Yoder finishing with 10 kills and seven digs. Caroline Taylor had six kills and 10 digs while Kinsley Huskey had four kills and nine blocks.
Ella Waldman had 13 digs, four assists and three aces while Amberlyn Scruggs had 11 assists amd five digs. Zaelea Eller had eight assists and seven digs.
