Sanchez, Savaia head Polk Middle effort at conference track and field finals

Lorenzo Sanchez and Gabby Savaia each scored a pair of top-eight finishes Tuesday to lead Polk County Middle’s efforts at the Blue Ridge Conference Track and Field Championship meet held at North Henderson.

Sanchez placed second in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump while Savaia took seventh in the 100 meters and eighth in the 200 meters.

Athletes had to place in the top four at the East Division meet to qualify for the conference finals.

Rugby won the girls team title, edging Hendersonville Middle by one point and Breverd Middle by three points. Polk Middle placed 10th

Apple Valley took the boys title, with Polk County Middle finishing eighth.
