Polk track and field teams take top honors at PCHS Spring Fling

Polk County’s boys and girls track and field teams swept the PCHS Spring Fling meet held Friday in G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The Wolverine boys topped a field that included R-S Central, Chase and Christ School, with Polk nipping R-S by 4.5 points, while the Wolverine girls easily defeated R-S Central and Chase.

Leading the way for the Polk girls was Amya Cunningham, who won the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles; Avia Cunningham, winning the shot put and discus; and Sophia Overholt, who won the 400-meter run in a regional qualifying time of 1:02.80 and also won the long jump with a mark of 15-6 that matched the qualifying level.

Polk County’s Braxton Edwards led the Wolverine boys with an 800-meter time of 2:05.08 that qualified him for the 2A West Regional.

Polk teams are slated to travel Thursday to North Henderson to take part in the WHKP Relays.
