Chase grabbed an early 5-0 lead Thursday en route to taking a 9-2 win over Polk County in the regular-season softball finale for both teams.

The Wolverines end their season at 8-11 overall, 2-10 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play. The Trojans closed at 13-8, 7-5.

Chase scored a pair of runs in the first inning, then added three more in the second for a 5-0 advantage. Polk scored twice in the top of the third, but that would be it for the Wolverines.

Polk County is expected to earn a wild card berth in the state 1A playoffs and will learn its first-round opponent on Monday, with the opening game set for Tuesday.
