Vitale, Young garner all-state selection

Polk County’s Sarah Vitale and Chloe Young have earned all-state recognition from the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association.

The two Wolverines were named to the NCSCA 2A all-state squad, that coming in the wake of being selected for the NCSCA 2A All-District 8 squad.

Vitale, a rising junior, hit a team-leading .431 with 13 RBI. She also finished 7-11 on the mound for the Wolverines, striking out 91 batters in 102.1 innings and recording a 3.28 earned run average.

Young, a rising senior, hit .411 with five doubles and four home runs. She drove in 13 runs and had a slugging percentage of .750.

McMichael’s Savannah Lockhart was named the 2A West Player of the Year while West Stanly’s Lily Huneycutt was named the 2A West Pitcher of the Year.
