Mitchell scored in every inning and defeated Polk County 13-2 in Thursday’s Western Highlands Conference softball game at Polk County.
The Lady Mountaineers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.
Polk County scored both its runs in the fourth inning. Tory Coile singled and Aslyn Scruggs followed with a bunt single. Lucy Tessnair’s RBI single to center field scored Coile, with Scruggs advancing to third on an error by the catcher. AJ Jackson’s groundout brought home Scruggs to make it 12-2.

Coile and Scruggs each finished 2-for-2 to lead Polk County. Tessnair and Kinsley Lancaster each added one hit.
Polk County (0-8, 0-3 WHC) travels to Mitchell on Friday.
Mitchell improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
