Unbeaten Rugby needs late rally to finally put away determined Polk Middle

It’s an oft and over-used cliche in sports, but Monday’s final score certainly did not reflect the effort of Polk County Middle’s softball team

It’s an oft and over-used cliche in sports, but Monday’s final score certainly did not reflect the effort of Polk County Middle’s softball team.

Four innings down at Polk County Recreation Complex and the Wolverines trailed the undefeated Raiders by just a run. But Rugby inched to a 2-0 advantage after five innings, then exploded in the seventh to grab an 8-0 victory in a Blue Ridge Conference clash.

Polk Middle dropped to 1-3 with perhaps its best effort of the season. Pitching, fielding – Polk did everything well Monday except put runs on the scoreboard.

The Wolverines are back in action Tuesday, hosting Apple Valley at 4 p.m. in their final game before spring break.
