Trio of Chase three-run rallies thwarts Polk in league opener

Chase strung together a series of threee-run rallies Tuesday, powering the Trojans to an 11-4 victory over Polk County in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference softball meeting in Forest City.

The Trojans improved to 2-1, 1-0 with the win. Polk County dropped to 3-3, 0-1.

How it happened: Chase opened a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first on three hits and a pair of walks. The Trojans continued to hit and score in the second, adding three more runs, to take a 6-0 advantage.

Polk County responded in the top of the fourth as Mia Bradley doubled and Chloe Young, returning from an injury, homered to slice the deficit to 6-2.

But Chase again answered with a three-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-2.

The Wolverines added a run in the sixth on Sarah Vitale’s RBI single and another run in the seventh as Katelyn Arrowood opened the inning with a double and scored on Kayleigh Wilson’s single.

At the plate: Bradley and Vitale each finished 2-for-3, with Young, Arrowood and Wilson each adding a hit.

Next up: The two teams are slated to meet again Thursday at Polk County, that game beginning at 4:30 p.m.
