A seven-run second inning helped propel Patton to a 9-4 victory over Polk County in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference softball matchup Thursday in Morganton.
The Panthers are now 6-4 overall, 2-2 in conference play, with the Wolverines falling to 6-7, 2-4.
How it happened: Patton took command with its big second inning, a pair of two-out errors extending the inning before Marleigh Carswell slammed a three-run homer to make it 7-0.
Polk answered with a run in the third on Mia Bradley’s RBI single, then picked up two more runs in the fourth. Katelyn Arrowood reached on an error and Junie Mitchell singled, and a Patton error later in the inning led to both runners scoring.
The Wolverines added another run in the fifth on a Chloe Young homer.
At the plate: Young finished 3-for-4, with Bradley and Mitchell adding base hits.
Next up: Polk County will host East Henderson on Monday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
