Polk County Middle earned its first win of the season on Monday, topping Flat Rock 20-3 in a Blue Ridge Conference softball matchup in Flat Rock.

The Wolverines (1-5) raced to an 11-0 lead after the first inning, added two more runs in the second and seven more in the third to end the game by run rule after three innings.

Flat Rock pitching struggles on a windy day helped fuel Polk Middle’s win. The Wolverines scored their 11 first-inning runs with just one hit, that being Junie May Mitchell’s triple. Polk batters earned seven walks, with five hit batters, in the inning.

The Wolverines didn’t have a hit in their three-run second, but Mitchell had two hits and Kinsley Lancaster and Angelina Jackson each had a hit as part of Polk Middle’s seven-run third inning.

Aslyn Scruggs earned the win, striking out four in three innings.
