Polk County infielder Aslyn Scruggs, right, had one of the Wolverines' seven hits in Tuesday's loss

Polk County suffered a 5-2 setback Tuesday at Patton in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference softball play in Morganton.

The Panthers improved to 3-4, 1-0 in their conference debut, with the Wolverines dropping to 4-3, 0-3.

Patton grabbed a 2-0 lead after two innings, but Polk answered with a run in the third as Mia Bradley reached base on a two-out error and scored on Chloe Young’s double.

Patton responded with a three-run fourth to make it 5-1 before the Wolverines scored another run in the sixth. Miya Jackson singled, Bradley again reached on an error and Young’s sacrifice scored Jackson.

That would be all the scoring for Polk as the Wolverines left six runners on base in the game.

Young finished 2-for-3 to pace the Polk offense, with Jackson, Sarah Vitale, Elizabeth Vitale, Laney Littlefield and Aslyn Scruggs each adding a base hit.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again Friday at Polk.
