Polk Middle shortshop Chloe Young prepares to throw to first after fielding a grounder during Tuesday’s game

Macon Middle exploded for eight runs in the first inning Tuesday en route to a 17-2 win over Polk County Middle in a four-inning battle at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The Panthers scored in each of the four innings in improving to 2-0. Polk Middle dropped to 0-2.

Polk Middle scored its first run in the bottom of the third. Junie Mitchell opened the inning with a single, then took second on a wild pitch. Sarah Vitale followed with a single and Mitchell later scored on a wild pitch.

The Wolverines picked up their final run in the fourth as Ada Kelley and Kynley Lawter opened the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out, Maddison Luss drew a walk to load the bases, and Mitchell’s infield grounder allowed Kelley to score.

Lawter finished 2-for-2, with Kelley, Mitchell and Vitale each adding a hit.

Polk Middle is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Hendersonville Middle.
