
Brevard Middle rallied Wednesday for eight runs in its last at-bat, storming back to hand Polk Middle a 15-14 setback in a wild Blue Ridge Conference softball game in Brevard.
The Blue Devils are now 2-1, with the Wolverines dropping to 0-2.
How it happened: The teams swapped runs in the first three innings, battling to a 2-2 tie after three.
Polk Middle grabbed the upper hand in the fourth inning, taking a 7-2 advantage on a series of singles, two hit batsmen and a Sofie Abrahamsen home run.
The Wolverines scored five more runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 12-2, but Brevard answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to slice the deficit to 12-7.
Polk Middle pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth, but Brevard exploded in the bottom half of the inning to fight back and take the win.
At the plate: Abrahamsen finished 4-for-5, with Abby Pruitt going 3-for-5 and scoring four runs, Kimber Palmet finishing 2-for-5 with four runs and Emma Hayford adding a 2-for-4 effort with two runs.
Kinsley Lancaster added a base hit for the Wolverines.
Next up: The two teams meet again Thursday at Polk County Recreation Complex, the 4:30 p.m. game serving as the Wolverines’ home opener.
