Sarah Vitale had one of Polk County's nine hits in Tuesday's loss

Brevard scored just often enough Tuesday to keep Polk County at bay, taking a 7-4 win over the Wolverines in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference softball action in Brevard.

The Wolverines dropped to 8-8, 2-7 with the loss, with the Blue Devils improving to 11-5, 7-2.

Polk County took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Mia Bradley singled, followed by a Chloe Young single, with Bradley later scoring on Elizabeth Vitale’s infield grounder.

Brevard responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, the rally including doubles from Rodgers and Bailey. The Wolverines sliced the margin to 3-2 in the third as Young drew a one-out walk and scored on Vitale’s two-out single.

Brevard pushed the lead to 5-2 with two runs in the fourth, but Polk responded again in the fifth, with Young drawing another walk and scoring on Junie Mitchell’s bases-loaded single.

A two-run sixth inning upped Brevard’s lead to 7-3. Polk closed the scoring in the seventh as Young singled and scored on Mitchell’s two-out single.

Young was 1-for-1 with three runs scored, with Mitchell and Vitale each going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Polk also got base hits from Bradley, Sarah Vitale, Miya Jackson and Kinley Waters. The Wolverines left eight runners on base.

The two teams are set to meet again Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Polk County.
