Hendersonville Middle built an early 7-1 lead Monday and went on to hand Polk County Middle a 13-6 setback in Blue Ridge Conference softball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The Wolverines (1-5) trailed 2-1 after the first inning after Junie May Mitchell drove in Elizabeth Vitale in the bottom of the first, but the Bearcats (3-3) steadily built their advantage the rest of the way to record the win.

Vitale finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Polk County, including an inside-the-park home run. Her sister, Sarah Vitale, struck out nine on the mound for the Wolverines.

Polk Middle is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Flat Rock Middle, before heading into the final week of the regular season.
