Wolverines slip past Owen, remain tied for WHC lead

Polk County remained tied Wednesday for the lead in the Western Highlands Conference girls soccer race, handing Owen a 2-1 defeat in a WHC match in Swannanoa.

Caroline Lee and Leah Stockdale scored goals as Polk County, ranked 11th in this week’s North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association state 2A poll, improved to 13-3 overall, 9-1 in WHC play. The Wolverines are tied with Hendersonville for the conference lead.

Rhian Alley and Ashley Love assisted the two goals for Polk.

Polk County’s junior varsity earned a 1-1 tie with Owen, with Aria Shields scoring on a penalty kick for the Wolverines.

Polk County’s varsity returns to action on Friday, traveling to Avery for another WHC match.
