Madison overcomes Love’s hat trick for 4-3 win over Polk

Madison remained undefeated Wednesday, surviving a Polk County rally to earn a 4-3 win in the Western Highlands Conference opener for both schools in Marshall.

The Wolverines (1-1, 0-1) led 1-0 at the half, but Madison (4-0, 1-0) erupted for four consecutive goals in the second half, including a penalty kick, to build a 4-1 lead.

Polk County rallied behind Ashley Love, who scored all three goals, to pull within one but could get no closer.

Lauren Ketwitz, Rhian Alley and Reese Alley had assists for the Wolverines.

Polk County is scheduled to play Saturday in the Burns Showcase before hosting its home opener on Monday against Mountain Heritage.
