Gaul’s hat trick helps power Polk past East Rutherford

Caelan Gaul scored three goals Wednesday and Belen Akers added two more as Polk County rolled to a 6-0 victory at East Rutherford in a non-conference girls soccer match.

The Wolverines (2-0) got two goals from Gaul in the first 10 minutes before Akers added her first goal off a Taytem Johnson free kick to give Polk County a 3-0 lead at the half.

Akers upped the lead to 4-0 in the 44th minute with a shot from the top of the box off a pass from Gaul, then Gaul completed her hat trick moments later on a feed from Scout Harmon.

Harmon later completed the scoring with a goal via an assist from Johnson.

Polk County makes its home debut on Monday and opens Western Highlands Conference play against Madison.
