Undefeated Cougars fend off Wolverines in WHC girls battle

Mountain Heritage built a 16-point lead at the end of three quarters, then fought off a Polk County rally to earn a 56-48 victory Friday night in girls basketball action in Burnsville.

Reigning Western Highlands Conference player of the year Destiny Elkins scored 23 points as the Cougars (8-0, 2-0) remained undefeated this season.

Kara Overholt scored 20 points and Hayley Kropp had 14 points for Polk County (6-3, 0-2). Kropp also had 13 rebounds and five assists for the Wolverines.

Polk County is now off until Jan. 2, when the Wolverines host Mitchell.
