Polk County’s girls will hit the road for the start of the 2A playoffs, traveling to Newton-Conover for Tuesday’s first-round action, according to unofficial pairings released Saturday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
The Wolverines (16-8) earned the 17th seed, the highest of any team that didn’t finish first or second in its conference.
Newton-Conover enters as the 16th seed with a 12-11 record. The Red Devils began the season 0-6, but got hot in conference play to finish second in Southern District 7.

The Red Devils are coached by Andrea Stinson, the former three-time All-American at North Carolina State who went on to play in the WNBA.
