Unbeaten Mountain Heritage broke open a close game with Polk County in the third quarter Saturday en route to taking a 60-42 win over the Wolverines in second-round state 2A playoff action in Burnsville.
The 24-0 Cougars, the top seed in the 2A West bracket, move on to the third round. Polk County ends its season, which saw the Wolverines win a 2A playoff game for the first time in the program’s history, with a 17-9 record.
Polk County led much of the second quarter before a late 3-pointer gave Mountain Heritage a 22-20 lead at halftime. The Cougars then surged ahead early in the third and built a 43-30 lead by the end of the quarter.
