Polk County raced to a 17-2 lead at the end of the first period and cruised to a 46-31 victory over Mitchell in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball action in Bakersville.
The Wolverines (11-8, 4-5) held a 25-8 lead at halftime in dropping Mitchell to 4-15 overall, 0-7 in WHC play.
Kara Overholt scored 21 points to lead Polk County’s offense. Overholt hit four 3-pointers in the game. Hayley Kropp had 10 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for Polk, which also got six rebounds from Sarah Phipps.

The Wolverines return to action Wednesday, traveling to East Henderson.
