Huge first quarter carries Wolverine girls to win at Hendersonville

Polk County roared to a 19-2 lead Friday and went on to hand Hendersonville a 47-34 defeat in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball action in Hendersonville.

The Wolverines (9-6, 3-3) did see their lead sliced to 22-16 at halftime, but were able to keep the margin in double digits in the second half in earning the win.

Hayley Kropp had 16 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists to lead Polk County. Kara Overholt had 13 points and four assists and Sarah Phipps had nine points and a season-high 18 rebounds for the Wolverines.

Hendersonville dropped to 5-12 overall, 1-5 in WHC play with the loss.

Polk County travels to Madison on Tuesday for another WHC clash.
