Mountain Heritage opened a 20-2 lead at the end of the first quarter Friday and went on to post a 66-20 win over Polk County in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball action at Polk.
The Wolverines (1-14, 0-7) returned to the court for the first time in a week after exams and for the first time without sophomore Ansley Lynch, who will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Perhaps getting back into the flow after both events, Polk County didn’t score its first field goal until the second quarter, getting just two free throws from Autumn Owen in the opening period.

Mountain Heritage (15-2, 7-1) extended the lead to 37-5 at halftime and continued to build the margin throughout the final two quarters.
Owen led Polk County with 11 points before fouling out early in the fourth period. Taylor Newton added four points, with Ava Marino and Bella Marino each scoring two and Mariah Overholt adding one.
Polk County travels Tuesday to Mitchell for another WHC matchup.
