Polk County garnered its first mention this year in a statewide football poll, receiving two votes in the NCPreps.com 2A state poll.
The Wolverines (7-3) knocked Owen out of both the NCPreps.com poll and The Associated Press top 10 poll with their 41-24 win Friday.
North Rowan, Franklin, Winston-Salem Carver, East Lincoln and High Point Andrews comprise the top five in both polls.
First basketball scrimmages set
Polk County basketball fans can get their first look at the Wolverine hoop squads this week.
According to the latest schedules from the PCHS athletic department, the Polk County girls will host a scrimmage with Chapman on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The Polk County boys, minus those still on the football squad, will travel to East Rutherford on Thursday for a 6 p.m. scrimmage.
Both varsity teams are scheduled to open the regular season Nov. 19 at Chase.
No Wolverines in state wrestling list
RetroRankings.com has posted its preseason statewide rankings of individual wrestlers, but no Polk County wrestlers made the list.
There were a two Western Highlands Conference wrestlers on the list:
106: Taylor Barnes, Madison, honorable mention
220: Rhett Hoy, Hendersonville, 1st

State ADM numbers released
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released 2013 ADM numbers on Tuesday, an important piece of data for the upcoming state football playoffs.
Once the 64 qualifiers for the playoffs are determined, the schools are split into two divisions, 2A and 2AA, based on enrollment size as detailed in the ADM numbers.
With 96 schools in the 2A classification, any of the 32 largest schools qualifying for the playoffs are assured of being in the large school bracket, with any of the smallest 32 assured of being in the small school bracket. As one of those 32 smallest 2A schools in the state, Polk County is assured of playing in the bracket for the smaller schools, 2A.
Pairings will be announced on Saturday.
