North Stanly to forfeit playoff opener with Polk County due to COVID-19 issues

Due to COVID-19 issues and a quarantine within North Stanly’s football program, the Comets will forfeit Friday’s first-round 1AA football playoff game with Polk County.

The Wolverines will be idle this Friday and will travel the following week to the winner of the North Rowan-Community School of Davidson game.

North Stanly had put together the first undefeated season in school history, finishing the regular season 6-0. The Comets received the top seed in the 1AA playoffs during Saturday’s random drawing of placements by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

Polk County, which will improve to 5-1, recently dealt with its COVID-19 issues in its program and missed its final two regular-season games.
