Polk County Middle School opened its cross country season on Tuesday, competing in a Blue Ridge Middle School Conference meet at Flat Rock.
The meet drew a large field, with more than 150 runners competing in both the boys and girls races.
For Polk Middle, a number of athletes were unable to race due to injuries or other limits. For those who did compete, Olivia Overholt led the Wolverine girls, finishing eighth overall in the event.
For the Polk boys, Chris Rickman posted the highest finish, coming home in 32nd place.
The teams are slated to compete again Tuesday at home, hosting another BRMRC meet.
