Polk County’s defense kept East Rutherford in check Wednesday, fueling a 3-0 victory over the Cavaliers in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup in Forest City.
The Wolverines (11-3-2, 6-2) limited the Cavaliers (7-10-1, 3-6-1) to a handful of shots, with Charlie Wagoner making five saves.
Polk took the lead on the first half as Nate Martinez scored off a cross from Thomas Varnadore, that goal giving the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage that stood at halftime.

Tanner Osborn doubled the lead in the second half, banging home a shot into the top right corner of the net off a pass from Martinez. Varnadore then closed the scoring, slotting home a shot following a perfect cross from James Purtill.
Polk County is next in action on Monday, traveling to Brevard to face the conference co-leaders.
