Shelby pulled away late to earn a 7-2 non-conference win over Polk County in the Wolverines’ season opener on Wednesday in Shelby.

The Golden Lions (1-1) had a 4-2 lead midway through the second half before tallying three late goals to drop Polk County to 0-1.

Wil Rimer and Hunter Hilbig scored for Polk County, with Rimer and David Sanchez adding assists.

Shelby earned a 5-0 win in the junior varsity match.

Polk County will open its home schedule on Thursday, hosting North Henderson. JV action begins at 4 p.m., with the varsity to follow at 6 p.m.
